I do believe that there is a strong link between binge-drinking and the price of alcohol nowadays. A report from Havard says:
Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health College Alcohol Study (CAS) released a new study documenting, through systematic on-site observations, the extent to which college students are targeted with sales of large volumes of alcohol, low sale prices, and frequent alcohol promotions at bars, liquor stores, and other retail outlets surrounding college campuses.
The study, which appears in the October 2003 issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, found a strong association between the presence of these promotions and higher rates of heavy drinking on college campuses.

Avoiding binge drinking - Guidelines
How can I avoid the risks of binge drinking? The NHMRC has provided alcohol guidelines to help reduce alcohol-related deaths in Australia . These guidelines use standard drink measures to help people monitor and control the amount of alcohol they consume. A standard drink is defined as one that contains 10 grams of pure alcohol:
One can (375mL) low-alcohol beer.
One pot (285mL) regular beer.
Three-quarters of a stubby (375mL) of regular beer.
One glass of mixed drink (30mL spirits + mixer).
One nip (30mL) of spirit or liqueur.
100mL (small glass) table wine.
Three-quarters of a bottle (330mL) of alcoholic soda.

Binge Drinking
What counts as 'binge drinking'. For a typical adult, this pattern corresponds to consuming 5 or more drinks (male), or 4 or more drinks (female), in about 2 hours.
Note, however, that "in common usage, binge drinking is now usually used to refer to heavy drinking over an evening or similar time span - sometimes also referred to as heavy episodic drinking. Binge drinking is often associated with drinking with the intention of becoming intoxicated and, sometimes, with drinking in large groups.
Does this include you now you have read the definition? I know that I definately drink more than 4 drinks on an evening. How harmful is this????
